How can I test and replace a wheel sensor on 2010 f150xlt screw, 5.4, 4x4? Display says check brake system, abs and brake light are on, abs and traction control do not work. I checked codes, says C1165 right rear sensor input circuit failure. I checked under the whole truck for any obvious wiring issue, didn't see anything. Plug at the wheel looks fine. Is there an ohm reading I can check at the sensor? How does the sensor come out? Possible it just needs to be cleaned?
I am having the same problem with my 2010 F150 4.6l. Left rear speed sensor is throwing a code, but the sensor is ok. How do I go about tracking down the issue?
I found a break in the wire, 1" behind the connector on the rear end. Was just a little green corroded hole in the insulation, on the truck-side harness. Follow the wire closely, starting at the sensor, look for a chip or break in the insulation. I'm told sometimes you can't see it from the outside, you need to check continuity from there to the plug on the abs module. The module is under the hood, left side in front of the engine. Follow the brake lines from the master cylinder to the hydraulic control unit, the abs module is mounted to the hydraulic control unit (hcu).
Thanks for the reply. I will check into that. As for how I know the sensor is ok, I stupidly replaced it without actually checking the sensor with my multimeter to see if it was ok. Replacing the sensor did not fix the problem, and I have since verified that the new sensor is good. I also checked the tone ring, and it appears to be in good condition.
