RUNNING GEAR UPDATE

Well I did manage to get the 73 donor truck for the parts I need for my 69 F-250 2 wheel drive. I want the change the disk brake front end to my 69. I'm no pro at mechanic work just OK. Looking at the project it seems to be the best to remove the entire setup. My booster is new can I use it. PLZ Help with your expertize. THX David

Also the rear end will change over. Its a posi. Dana 60 Will it fit or need modifying. THX David

Your 73 D-60 won't bolt in because in 73 the frame was widened to 37 1/2" for 2wd, F-100 4wd, and 77.5-79 F-250 4wd, from 33 1/2". The 73-77 F-250 4wd kept the same width spring perches. The spring perches won't fit unless you remove and reweld them in the narrower frame position. Or you could swap the carrier to your old axle.

Running gear replace

THX RichS2659 I'm still going to buy this truck. I don't believe I can go wrong for $350.00. Are you referring to the axle housing or the truck frame mounts or both. Like I said I'm not a mechanic. Please bare with me. THX David

Both for the 73 axle as the 73 frame is wider, and the spring pads on the axle are wider apart.

The disc brake setup will bolt right on. Pull the spindles and I-beams as a unit and bolt 'em up!

You will also need the master cylinder and the proportioning valve, so grab all the lines with it.

I dont think that the 73 rear axle offers any improvements over the existing Dana 60 rear axle in your 69? Unless its got bigger drums, the 73 should be basically no different in terms of strength than the existing rear axle.

Oh, and unless you have verified that its actually got some sort of Limited slip diff, dont believe the seller! Just like how virtually ALL 360's magically become 390's on sale day, virtually EVERY truck ever sold has at least one "posi" in it, and if its 4wd, most are advertised as "Posi front and rear". Even if it is either a Dana Trac loc, or better still a Dana Power loc, if its gotta a zillion miles on it, it may not offer much traction control.......May the buyer beware

It may have friendlier gearing and it might have more than the 16 splines that the 69 diff has. Run the BOM on the new diff.

update

HELLO ALL, well I finally got the 73 truck home. Turned out to be quite an ordeal. We are going to try and get it running today, check out rear end to see if any tag info is available. Start to make a plan to dismantle and take all the parts I need, then either junk the rest of try and give it away or sell. Now for the questions, I know you said take all other parts with the front end swap (like master cyl. ect ). Can I use the master and booster off of my 69 its new. These types of changes are all new to me so if I sound ---- please bare with. Also it looks like it have AC on it, any comments. Also going to measure the stroke to determine what engine I have. THX for all of the help. David
