One thing to not do first. Vacuum test the cooling system. With pressure testing you
run a higher risk of flooding the intake or a cylinder with coolant. The only right way to test for head gasket leaks it to first fix the EGR cooler leak then you can retest safely.

You can also "T" a pressure gauge into the small line to the degas bottle from the intake.
Use a 0~30 PSI gauge and that will help to point the way. I don't have a cheat-sheet of what
to look for in the pressures. But I think it was fast rising pressure when you get on it vs slow
rising pressure and over pressure or 16 PSI +

If I'm not mistaken, if u get 16 and over psi, it's blown head gaskets.

A leaking EGR cooler will also pressurize the system to some extent.
Just not as much as a head gasket.

Do you think it would ADD pressure to the system? I would think it would do the opposite, Since it is releasing coolant OUT of the system... unlike a headgasket that is pushing pressure INTO the cooling system. I am just thinking out loud here an trying to clear up my own confusion.,,,,,for future reference.

It adds pressure to the coolant system because exhaust pressure is greater than coolant pressure.

so I should do a coolant flush before changing anything ? I was going to change the oil cooler and egr cooler. I was going to use a ford oil cooler and a bp or sinister egr cooler.

I didn't know sinister diesel makes an egr cooler. Lol.

If ur gonna go this route, make sure u do stuff to the letter. Get the blue egr hose from ford. U may consider updating ur stc fitting. The BP egr cooler is a better bet.

Are u doing the work urself? If u are, I could give u some pointers.

It's a pain in the @$$ but the best way with a leaking EGR cooler is.
Fix EGR first then flush. After you have gotten it good and flushed
then you do the oil cooler. That way you don't plug up the oil cooler
with the crap that you flush loose and also don't hydrolock the engine
if the EGR cooler really takes a dump.
