I have a couple questions about my brothers 2005 6.0.
We are really hoping that he doesn't have bad head gaskets.
When he starts the truck for the first time for the day or after it has sat off for a while it runs just fine. If he drives any distance to let the truck warm up and shuts it off, at the store or what have you, when he starts the truck it runs horribly. It misses, has no power, bad white smoke. The only time that it runs this way is when he's ran it for a while and then shuts it off and restarts it.
Is there any puking from the degas cap? I would pull the egr valve and look down the intake with a flashlight. Look for any signs of coolant, if you can park the truck nose down for a few mins/hrs before it will help move any coolant to the front of the intake if there is any present making it easier to see. Also what does that white smoke smell like? Sweet like coolant, or eye watering raw diesel smell?
You're going to need a bit more info. FordF150guy is correct on that part to check (looking for egr cooler issue) You also need a way to look at Pids either a scangauge or OBDII adapter and app.
