Hey Guys,
You guys were dead on with the aftermarket ICP sensor with the RF interference. I put the Ford sensor in and all is good. Now I've got a new problem... My taillights are out. I have break lights but no tail lights. I checked all the fuse under the dash and the ones that had power had power on both sides of the fuse so I've eliminated that as the issue. I then checked the plugs up under the bed and they were all together. What am I over looking here? Are there other fuses under the hood somewhere? Once again any and all help appreciated you guys never let me down!
IIRC.... the model years prior to our '02's used to have an additional fuse box under the hood, but it was moved into the cab in '02.
Have you checked all your ground wires, specifically?
There is a PDF here in FTE (by woodnthings, Ken) which has the entire wiring schematic laid out... perhaps it will help you trace down the gremlin. I'll see if I can locate it and give you a link.
I think with that same symptom on my friends 00 S-D we had to replace the light switch to fix it. but dont buy a new switch just off my memory, might be some more trouble shooting ideas coming.
Thanks guys... here's something else to think about... I just had a trailer hooked up to it and somebody said that there is a "towing relay" or something like that. The other thing is I notice that the plug in front for the block heater was shorting out and I had to cut the wires back and re-terminate the plug end. I don't know if any of this is related or not just some other things to think about.
As far as the switch is concerned, the front and cab marker lights work so I would think the switch wouldn't be the problem unless it has another output for the rear marker lights and that I don't know.
Pete,
I'm looking over that wiring but I can't find the marker lights in there anywhere. Am I missing them?
You know, Kris... that diagram end sup being just the engine wiring harness alone, and not the entire vehicle diagram. Sorry. I'll see if I can chase up something else which is more helpful.
Check Fuse #17 again. If its good, its most likely an open on either feed or ground. Check Circuit 14 (BN) for an open. MeasureDCV between CJB C270J Pin #12 (C270J) side to ground on the diagram of the earlier post.
To find fuse #17 start at the upper left hand corner of the fuse box, count over 5 colums going from left to right than go down to the 8 fuse (count down 8 rows) and that is fuse #17.
Double checked the fuses again especially #17 and its good. Could it have something to do with one of the relays under the hood... somebody told me about a towing relay?
If use 7 and 17 are good. Do you have Tag Lights? When you use the key fob to lock the doors does the Cab Lights AND tail lamps flash, or just the cab lights?
Woops. Hit post too quick. The rear lamps receive signals from 2 switches. The Dash Selector and the Security Module. If, you have them when using the fob (two quick button pushes on the lock) but don't have them by the switch its most likely the switch. If you don't have them with either you have an open somewhere between the cab lights and the bed connector. Since both the stop/tail light wiring is in the same loom its doubtful you have a broken connection. Either a feed or ground connection in the loom. Let us know what you find out.
This is what Tom is referring to in his post above. The park lamp relay bypasses the switch when using the key fob. Fused power for park lights at headlight switch also supplies this relay.
...
Pete,
Do you or can you find a fuse box diagram that shows which fuse is which? Mine is missing the cover that shows which fuses are what.
Sorry for the delayed reply... I didn't even check in this weekend due to tons of time spent rebuilding some deck support header structures at the house. Anyway... the fuse box PDF's are attached. Forgive the poor quality, but it's the best I could get from enlarging the images online. I also had to split the PDF into three separate files due to the FTE file size limitations.
