New truck and need some info.

Just picked up a 96 f250 crewcab short bed 4x4 heavy duty with a thirsty 460. I need to put some manual hubs on the front because they are clicking and I do not like auto hubs but not sure which axle it is. I know its got 3:55 gears and I assume 10.25 stearling rear but is front d50ttb or the 44hdttb. How would I tell.

I think the placard on the driver side door jamb should give you that info.

To my knowledge the 250's in that year came with the Dana 50 front. I recently replaced my auto's to manual and went with Mile Marker SS. Our trucks with the Dana 50 will need the 30 spline hubs when you're shopping.

There have been several threads on the D44 vs. D50 front axle subject. For the most part there is no 100% guarantee which one you have without looking up some information.

The easiest way to tell is looking at the hubs. The photo below shows the relative hub diameter for a D44 vs. D50:

On all mine there has been a stamp or casting mark on the diff housing. Either a 50 or 44.

Thanks guys, I was looking under it today and greasing some stuff and noticed it has lower ball joints but not uppers so That's a king pin axle correct? which would make it a dana 5o I would think but do not.

No and yes. It probably has a Dana 50 TTB front axle which has both lower and upper ball joints. Never had king pins. If someone has replaced it with a solid axle, that would be a Dana 60, but still would have either ball joints upper and lower or king pins upper and lower, not a combination of both.

Look for the axle tag or reference the photo I posted. There is no king pin D50.
