which hubs do I have? (spline count) 92 F250

I just bought a 92 F250 4x4 (extra cab, 351 5 spd standard) which has automatic hubs and I would like to replace them with manual hubs. I see Warn has 2 models, one for 19 spline and one for 30 spline axles. Is there an easy way to tell which I have without taking anything apart?

Thanks in advance!

Never heard of that, there is a possible dana 44hd or dana 50. but thats the only difference I know of. The dan 50 hub completely fills the hole in the center of the wheel and the 44 is smaller. I think all the ext cabs had 50's

thanks bashby

I think it may be a dana 44 by your description. I'll post photos later if I can.

photos of hub and front diff

based on the fact the hub cap holes are much larger than the hubs themselves and what bashby said and the fact these hubs look about the same size as the ones I had on my 73 bronco (dana 44) I am guessing I have a light duty front diff that would take the Warn 9790 hubs as opposed to the heavy duty P/N 11690 hubs.

Does that seem like the case? Thanks

If you have an extended cab, you have a Dana 50 unless someone swapped it out. The wheelcover in the picture hides too much to tell for sure but it looks like a Dana 50 to me.

thanks Andy

thanks for the quick reply Andy!

so if it is a dana 50 do you know if that means I need the "heavy duty" version of the Warn hubs?

(from the Warn site application table: Warn Industries - 4WD Standard Manual Hubs)

3/4 Ton Pickup, Light Duty '77.5-97 H 19 spline PN 9790

3/4 Ton Pickup, Heavy Duty '78-97 H 30 spline PN 11690

My 95 f150 d44 had 6 screws holding on the cap yours only has 5 not sure if that makes a difference of not... Just a thought

Would the f250 with d44 have coil springs like the 1/2ton and the 50 have leafs? Or am I confused with that

My auto hubs had 5 screws in the cap, the Warn manuals have 6, about the splines, taking the cap of the hubs is an easy way to check that out, just 5 screws and you're done. Check the front end rebuild in my signature, i think you'll find it helpful.

thanks all

sounds like I need the HD hubs but to insure I order the right parts I'll pull the hub cover bit off and see whats there in terms of number of splines on the axle.

This forum is great!

Hey edbee, all extended cab and crew cab F250s are heavy duty with full floating rear axles. Regular cab F250s can be light(semi floating rear axle) or heavy duty(full floating rear axle)IIRC. So that being the case and you have an extended cab you have a heavy duty (8800 lbs gvwr (off door sticker)).

Thx

Ken

HD vs LD has absolutely nothing to do with the Dana 44/Dana 50 question.
