As some of you know i have a 1990 F350 with a 7.3 IDI TURBO and ZF5 i am about to embark on a massive conversion to a DTA360 with an allison trans
I will be taking alot of pics and sharing alot of info along the way...if this is not the place to start this thread then maybe one of the moderators can show me the way
Let me clarify in saying i am in no way bashing my 7.3 idi, nor am i getting rid of it or the zf, i love the engine, has been very reliable and a great workhorse, but the fact is i have outgrown the power of it, and i am staying true to the breed and staying with inter/nav as powerplant...i decided i did not want a fummins so i am going with the dta360 that has far more potential than the cumapart 5.9 can dream of. I have been inactive here for a while and i have seen to many " more power" posts....this is a great option...it is all mechanical and non electronic and capable of 3000 hp thanks to the puller crowd
So a guy with an IDI ~TRUCK comes to this forum offering to share pics and info of an engine swap (still diesel) and gets boooo hissss in the first few posts because he's switching to a different engine platform? Weird. We should be flattered he wants to host that thread here. The engine swap forum is tiny, and pretty dead. There are not whole forums dedicated to DT swaps like there are for Cummins conversions. This is the chapter for early mechanical diesels in slant nose, brick nose and OBS trucks right? IMO this is the right place... Just put "off topic" DT engine swap in the thread title and it will shoo off the nay sayers. I'll still read it
Thank you...i have always been a fan and avid user of this site vs some of the other sites...collection of information for this swap has been extensive...one thing i know is everyone here loves thier fords...i do, you couldn't give me another brand, this is a great alternative"better" than the cummins and still stays true to the ford/international marriage. a little quick info...the DTA360 is a 5.9 i6 wet sleeve medium duty mechanically injected engine, has a bosch "A" pump but can easily be converted to the infamous p pump. It has 28 5/8 head bolts and is said to hold 100 psi boost however its all about flow and not boost the runner configuration is way larger and smother than a cumaparts
post away Dave, i can't wait to see how you make out with it.
i have wanted to do a DT360/allison swap in my 79 for a few years now, but never found a good engine to use.
