Is the 2.5l 4 in the 2014 Escape the same as the 2.5l I have in my 2009? Just wondering in case I can ever stomach the cookie-cutter looks of the new ones.
The 2.5L engine is the same. But it is only available on the base "S" model. I don't think AWD is available on the "S", if that matters.
Ford lists the 2013-2014 2.5L as a few HP lower than the 2008-2012 years. I suspect that "lowering" might be to give the 1.6L Ecoboost a little marketing headroom over the 2.5L, otherwise the 1.6 Eco would only be a few more HP than the 2008-2012 2.5L's! And the Eco attains that HP rating only when run on 93 octane gas... and the 2.5L runs on regular gas.
The 6F35 six-speed auto transaxle is the same as before.
Thanks for the reply Torky2. My experience with my XLS in the past 5 years and 2 days has been quite satisfying with that engine. More than enough power for any situation and total reliability tells me that I do not need the added cost and complexity of a turbo/whatever. The 6spd trans went through that recall back in '09 for re-flashing and, other than oil changes, has never been in the shop. Three mpg checks in early '09 gave an average of 29.76 mpg, although about half of that was freeway driving. Haven't checked it since then. Hmmmmmm.......If it ain't broke.....
