If u look up a remey new starter the Obs and sd are the same number.
I'll be paying attention to this as I want to be prepared when mine fails. My alternator failed catastrophically and unannounced forcing my to buy one from napa rather than exploring options.
If there is a shop local to you than can rebuild the one you have thats the way I would go. The is, IIRC, a higher torque Mitsu starter available also. An option opposed to going to a Denso two bolt.
There are two different starters. SD also uses a gear reduction starter. I have the gear reduction starter on mine. One has two mounting holes and the other has 3, but they bolt up the same.
Yes SD gear reduction starter is the way to go, two bolts and might have to enlarge the starter (at starter) solenoid post wire connector so it slides on the post. Spins way faster for quicker starts and is generally less expensive than OBS starter, least where I live.
well, i threw on a sd starter today and man, that thing spins like no other, fast as all he!!, im waiting to see how much nicer it starts in the cold tomorrow! anyways Thanks guys!
Did you have to mod anything to make it work? How did the cost compare to the obs starter?
Just had to drill out the small wire eyelet that goes to the solenoid.. Very simple and well worth it. Just my opinion but I'm very happy with the starter. As far as cost goes I'm not sure I didn't even price out the obs starter.. Sorry
