Yup. I'm absolutely going that way, but either white or cool white. But, I will have to find similar bulbs for the aftermarket gauges. Hmmm, hadn't thought of that.
Some newer after market gauges use the 194 bulbs. Who knows, you might get lucky and find some that do......
uses 158's, which use the same physical bulb but have slightly less light output. So, it looks to me like that would work perfectly, with the only possible problem being that it would be too bright. So, I could have the same color of gauge - especially if I can match the red of the needles.

I think the OP said the original dimmer still controls these LED bulbs, so they shouldn't be too bright.
BTW - great choice of guage there, VDO are one of the few makes that are actually accurate, Stack are another but they are about twice the price of VDO. You guys get a great price on those VDO gauges too, we pay over $50 for the same item not including freight. I'm hoping to replace my entire instrument panel with VDO gear.
Just wanted to say thanks - I ordered the green LEDs, removed the blue filters, and it looks perfect. I used the same company in the link (superbrightleds.com) and they are located nearby. Shipping was fast.

Welcome to FTE! That company is based in St. Louis, so I assume you're in Coffeen, IL? I've been to the winery there a handful of times. I lived in Vandalia for a few years, loved that area.

Hey, that's cool - that's my family's winery. Let me know if you're ever in the area again and we can talk shop. Have a good one guys and thanks.
I did mine a couple of months ago and it turned out to look exactly like the dash pic in post #1. I also replaced my turn signal indicator bulbs (left and right). It also matched my new Kenwood DIN receiver in color. Really has a sharp look when driving at night.
The original blue colored plastic filters do become opaque/cloudy with advanced age. In previous posts, some have mentioned removing the filters [some have crumbled away] and replacing with 194Blue and others have said 194Green. I would have thought blue would come closer to the original.
I chose blue because the mouse rubbers on the bulbs illuminating the headlights/wipers & ashtray bulbs are blue + there is blue tint in the HVAC panel.
