Removing plastic step from bumper

I need to remove the plastic step from my 07 F150 bumper to paint it.
Do I just pull it up & off or do I need to get under it to do anything ? Thanks

It would be easiest to take the bumper right off the truck. On the under side there is a bunch of tabs that stick through the metal part of the bumper that lock the step pad down. You have to squeeze them with a pair or pliers (which is easiest off the truck so you can roll the bumper around on a stand). Its easiest to start on one side an work strait across the bumper. Keep upward tension on the step pad while you're releasing the locking tabs underneath.

Thanks much, I just have a corner of the bumper rusting so I'll just try and get it propped up on one side & see if I can get some rust preventer & paint under it.
