Road trip, ENGAGE!!
That was from driving in 4wd all week.
Trip from Boston to Newport was 7.8 to 8mpg towing. Between me hammering down Boston to Waterville, and the terrible snowy roads Waterville to my house, I guess it can be justified.
It's time for some motor upgrades. This thing is insufficient.
Got some new smells this trip. Always something I guess.
I'm back in Lansdale pa.
Last two fill-ups were 9.3 mpg.
My first stretch going north had a half can of sea foam in each tank, and that's why I got better mpg. It's not the first time I've tested it. My explorer got 2mpg better with just 1/4 can in each tankful. This truck needs 1/2 can which isn't beneficial to the checkbook. So I won't do it.
I really want to do the big rear tank though. I don't know why people don't do it when they need to replace their rear tank anyway. 160 miles on the rear tank is nonsense. I just justified the bigger tank with this trip... And the badass 255lph fdm. If I'm doing a new tank I sure ain't gonna put the old fdm in it.
The truck went great. It deserves an oil change now. It only burned about 3/4 quart in 1400 miles. I'm happy.
So, this years list of mods...
Big f26d rear tank and 255lph fdm
Ported polished 194 valve 69 351 heads and 1.7 rockers with studs and guide plates
Cam lifters (only thing I don't have)
Long tube stainless headers, 2.5" mandrel bent stainless exhaust into 2 bullet cats, into stainless magnaflow muffler, 3" out to a stainless mandrel bent tailpipe exiting in stock location
Ported and polished stock 351 intake to the heads and opened up to mate to a ported 302 upper intake, and a supercharged cobra throttle body.
MSD coil and 6AL box
I'll see how it tows after all of that stuff.
