I just left for my trip to central Maine from Philidelphia.
I just replaced springs hangers and shackles, along with three rear U joints and the steady bearing, I have stopped a couple times to check and retighten everything, so we are hoping that the truck does well all the rest of the way.
Oh, and I am towing a trailer with a car on the back.
The old truck has some weird smells coming off it from not being driven this hard in a long time.

You're not working the poop out of it are you?
Have a good trip and please be safe!!!
Stopped again to check trailer chains and bearings (an hour ago), and I'm givin'er some and then BLAAAAT RUMMBLE RUMBLE VROOOOM the freakin old exhaust gave up right after the cat (was a temp fix with crappy aluminized stuff)
Luckily I carry a fair bit of tools, including a cordless sawzall.
I guess it's time I stop being lazy and put on my stainless headers and stainless exhaust.

Made it to boston 2 hours ago.... Drove through a few neighborhoods setting off car alarms and stuff. It was fun.
The truck gets babied 360 days a year, so the 5 days I actually work it, everything gets burned off.
Rear axle is running 140*
Transfer case is about 150-160*
Trans is hotter at about 200 but well below critical temp.
Each had a 5 mile cool down before checking, but I don't think it cooled off too much.
Next leg of trip Sunday morning. Heading to Newport Maine and then 33 miles north through the woods to my place.

Hammer down from boston to Portland.... 8mpg
Drive 60-65 with traffic to try for better mpg
Augusta to Waterville was wet
Waterville to Newport was nearly unplowed with slush and stuff.
23* and windy last time I see a thermometer.
Hubs locked in and ready for the 33mile back woods ride now.
There are a couple of potato farms NE of Carthage. They grow green beans, peas, cucumbers, and sweet corn on an industrial scale. Pretty neat to see if you are into that stuff.

Huh. I lived outside of Republic for a couple years and never saw any. But nice to see this thread has devolved into a geographical farming discussion lol
Btw UNTAMND, my truck had a pretty bad exhaust leak over the summer I think I know what you're talking about. I went to a drive-through once and it was so loud they couldn't hear me. I told 'em it was a diesel.
