I hope you are kidding. If you really mean 1/4 to 3/8's of a turn and not an inch then something in your front end is toast and needs to be replaced. I would lay under the truck and have someone gently take the slack out if the steering by turning the steering wheel back and forth. If the main movement is that the steering shaft turns going into the box and the output doesn't then replace the box. But it might be another component and the box is the most expensive so check it out before replacing it.

x2 what Gary said. Also jack up each side, put a pry bar under the tire and try to wiggle up n down. May have bad ball joints also. If its 1/4-3/8 "turn", then is getting dangerous to drive without repair.

I cherry picked these two being the closest match to my 78 F100 2wd with power steering.

If either one of these line up with my truck count me in.

I've never been part of a group buy. Does this typically mean 3 days to get it in the mail or 3 days to make sure it's there?

If it's the latter, maybe we should postpone this buy, there have been some pretty nasty weather related shipping delays from some parts recently.

I'd be totally down for waiting till ice between here and there isnt as much of an option.

I believe it means that we have 3 days during which we call in to order. Then they apply the percentage discount based on the number of orders and process the orders.

In the past, yes .... there is a "3 day or so" time frame during which all interested call in to RHS and place their orders. The first few may be told full price with a promise to reduce or credit if the numbers increase .... and they are honest folk so they will. When we called in I just told the fellow I was calling in as part of a group buy from FTE, he already knew about it. Ours was Mon - Wed, I called Monday, placed the order, and the box was here Wed afternoon and they applied a $60 discount. Super people, all "family" owned / operated.

Credit card makes it easy, and unless you are like "married" to your box, ask them if they have one in stock ready to go. Makes it faster and they so completely remanufacture it and make their changes .... not like you're getting someone else's junk.

Add me to the count, I'm interested. My 79 needs a new steering box. It's still safe to drive, but it's something that I would like to replace BEFORE it becomes a real problem.
