Hey guys, long time since I posted here
So, since some sort of ****storm is about to fly into my area, wanted to throw the '84 into 4x4. The guy I bought it from said to
-Lock hubs (duh)
-Throw in neutral
-Select 2HI, 4HI, or 4LO
-Reverse
-Drive away
When I follow those steps, It seems like something is slipping. Both hubs were locked, and I followed those steps exactly.
What did I do wrong?
Thanks for the help.
Are you hearing grinding when 4hi or 4low is selected? If so the most common cause is a stripped hub but it could also be a t-case problem but it's pretty easy to narrow it down.
Is this a push button 4x4?
1st off, reverse is not necessary unless coming OUT of 4 Low.
If it is you need to put it in park AND press the brake pedal to get it in 4 Low, it should slip right into 4 High.
Also if it is a push button the motor is your likely cause of failure.
Dose it work in 4 low? Sometimes when you pull back on the t-case shifter to put it into 4 high it won't engage all the way its still in 2wd the front wheels won't have power to them the 4x4 light on the dash will light up and it will make a grinding noise hope this helps
