You about had it...remove the fasteners you mentioned, and wrestle it out.

You have a 2000..it's a NVK.

It really doesn't matter for a Super Duty, every tuner will override your PCM's stock code.

Most tuners use PMT code to write the tune off of. The PMT family has the reputation of having real good shifting and lower egt's to work off of.

Its a 9/99 build date 2000 F250 7.3 with 6spd. They need the exact number. So let me get this right, im supposed to take the 10mm on the engine bay side and remove that bolt in the harness, and remove the inside cabs 7mm bolts holding the black plastic case on and then my PCM should be free to just pull apart? It was giving me a struggle when i was puling i dont know if its supposed to be easy or there is a trick im missing? I read somewhere i should be able to it with a mirror and a light or something but i dont know where that is?

I tugged and pulled and wigged and used all my might, i cant get it out, and i cant pull the harness of the enging bay side, i dont know whats going on. To top it off i thought i heard a spark noise so on my next trip outside i gotta take my key and see if anything messed up. Erghh.. This is the only thing holding back my order.

That 10mm bolt takes plenty of turns to loosen the connector enough to disengage from the PCM. Sometimes you have to turn the bolt, wiggle the connector, turn the bolt, wiggle the connector, repeat until it can be pulled free.

If you can get you camera down low enough on the fender side of the connector you should be able to get a picture of the label. It worked for me.

Yes, that 10mm bolt is a PITA. It's like it never ends, and mine is an '03 without that big fuse box in the way. And my PCM was stubborn to come out as well, it's sealed pretty tight.
Maybe the sparks noise you heard was just some dried out wire loom splitting, cracking or just rubbing something. Glad she still runs.

To add to Matthews post, I tired a telescopic mirror and couldn't get it in well enough. Ended up shoving my iPhone down there with the flash on and snapping a picture of the sticker.

While a camera or mirror solves problem 1, that doesn't solve how he can install the chip.

Let's focus on the connector. You're loosening the 10mm bolt in the middle of the connector? During my many visits to the PCM, I have accidentally worked on a bolt next to the PCM connector.

Once that bolt spins completely loose, it's attached to the connector... so it stays with it. The camera idea is good for seeing what's going on down there, and maybe you can spot the problem.

Didnt get to look today. i bought a telescopic inspection mirror tho. i hope tomorrow i can get it out. ill try taking the metal bracket off too.

i believe im on the correct bolt on the PCM harness. ill try snapping pics and the mirror and the full removal if necessary. it sucka on space down there and there is a huge stiff wire loom right in my way.
