Voltage Rebulator replacement - write up

Mods - I'm not sure where this should go - so feel free to move where appropriate.

1991 Ford Bronco 5.0 - just did an engine replacement with a junk yard engine. When done the VR was broken & the alternator wouldn't charge.

This is the old alternator & Regulator. 2 things to notice - first the VR is broken off & 2 the mud coating on the alternator. I honestly think the previous owner sank this truck in the river.

Use your torx wrench & remove the 4 retaining screws.

Now be careful when you remove the old regulator there are springs & brushes under there that will let loose when you pull it out.

remove the brushes from the old regulator & transfer to the new one.

To install the new regulator back into the alternator you need to hold the brushes in place.

Push them into place & slide a small allen wrench into the hole to retain them into place.

Reinstall the VR into the alternator.

Attach the screws & tighten it down & then pull out the allen wrench.

Re-install the alternator into the truck & fire it up!

In my case this fixed my issue & I am charging just how I should be.

Seems the engine & trans are working better now too.
