I have a 94 aerostar and am replacing the stereo. My problem is this: which wire on the exsisting harness is power/ground/constant. The stereo I am installing had the harness cut, so I can't buy an adapter. Speaker wires are not a problem as I am rewiring them completely (to avoid 'crackle' problems). My Haynes manuals' diagram does not match what I am seeing so any help would be appreciated.
Why can't you buy an adapter? you could splice it to what ever wires you have left on the radio you are putting in. The wires on the adapter are labled also...
I can't say which wire is which without pulling my dash apart. I will do this if no one else knows, I need to re-wire my dash speakers anyway, and this gives my an excuse to do the job. vans in the shop right now though...
By the way, what kind of radio/speakers are you planing on putting in?
There are a couple of sites out on the 'net that show Ford wiring diagrams and schematics. I checked them out last week because I just bought a 1996 Aerostar with a non-functioning radio.
I'll post some links later (assuming I can find them again).
Thanks for all your help. A harness won't work bcause the aux amplifier makes everything sound like crap. I put in a kenwood cassette head unit w/ cd chgr & 45 watts a channel (x4) a bazooka 300 watt sub amp and a 12" rockford fosgate sub in a box. Just finished it and it sounds great!!! (also kenwood 6x9's 3 ways & kenwood 4" round 2 ways for the dash).
FYI... I did this in December. Not all Aerostar Rear Control/Factory Amp Stereos need the aftermarket amp converter. Mine with the converter sounded like crap. I contacted Schotch (sp?) about it, and ford had several mid year wiring changes. Mine I wired it in with out the converter, straight up, with factory speakers, and it sounds fine. I installed a Pioneer DLH-1000 head unit.
