Is there a quick indicator if a plug coil is bad? My V-10 is randomly missing with NO check engine light or codes. I have 150k mi. I changed out all the plugs and noticed one of the coils makes a high pitch tone when the connector is unplugged or plugged. I also put 2 cans of Sea Foam in a full tank. No change. Any ideas?
Mine was missing too, no light. Changed the plugs, which it needed anyway, still missed. Then took it to my neighbor who has a Snap-on scanner and was missing on 2 cylinders = bad COP's. He had Advance brings us new COP's and he helped replace them for nothing. (I brought him a 30 pack anyway) After replacement it runs great. I love that guy.
Driving a Ferrari to the grocery store does not make one a race car driver. Likewise, having one of the best scanners available does little good unless you know how to use it to its best advantage.
You have to go in and look at the Mode $06 Test $53 data directly to identify the misfiring cylinders on non-MIL misfires.

^^^ Can someone please decifer the second line into simple English? ^^^
I have a 2000 with 156k miles, plugs were changed at 150k with new boots, PCV valve hose replaced at 146k and the same random hesitation. I have the 5 Star SCT X3 tuner but I'll admit I dont "how to use it to its best advantage."
