I bought a 77 f150 a while back and the po said the charging system was fine. Guess I should have brought my multimeter with me. I know the alternator was maintaining the battery's charge but never went over 12.8 volts. Fmc400 had me do some testing and told me to look for some non factory wiring. I have removed all of the electrical tape and can not find any breaks in the wiring. I did notice the output wire from the alternator was about 10 inches longer than it needs to be. So my question is is that a ghetto po thing? Thanks Evan
Not necessarily. When I did the 3G alternator retrofit I discovered that the alternator/charging harness from the factory had lots of extra length and was simply folded back on itself and taped up.
I'm not sure why you've started a second thread when you have yet to follow up to my previous instructions. If trying to help you is a waste of time, please let me know up front.
