I'm guessing it your 2003 Ex... You probably have a lazy relay... Just start the truck, turn your headlights on and off a couple times that should do it.
No fun in this weather. Hopefully you will get some good help on FTE. If It's electrical I'm not your gal but I am sure someone can help you figure it out.

Hank, what Michael up there said.
Here's a creative way another person posted the headlight trick to fix the dead digital climate control issue:

Tools required:
X ignition key, job appropriate beverage, water bottle with spray attachment.
1) Open a bottle of your favorite beverage.
2) Flip the headlight switch on and off several times. Go from daylight to on. Not sure if the ignition needs to be in ACC, or engine started, try both ways if the other doesn't work, but... Don't worry about turning on fog lights. Yes, this really works.
3) Turn on air.
4) Bask in your glory, and ice cold air. Sip.
5) Spray your chest, armpits and forehead with water. Return to your family, exclaiming "Whew, got it!"

Mine has a lot of years and miles and rarely gives me grief now. Can't say why, but bug does not happen as often now.
I suspect you will not be able to find a dealer mechanic that can find/fix this "bug". It is built in, and would require factory involvement to totally eliminate.

The problem lies in the combination of the EATC head unit, auto headlight feature, and the light sensor on the top center of the dash..
If it were a problem with the accy delay relay, your stereo wouldn't work when the EATC was out..
If turning the headlight switch doesn't work (it didn't when mine had this problem) popping the fuse out and then putting it back in fixed it for me. You can find the fuse panel list in your manual and when you go into the fuses there is a black cover that states the location of the fuse based on the number you pull from the manual.
You guys sure nailed it!! My son went out and came back in saying it worked fine. Sure enough and for whatever reason I noticed headlights were on. Jt wouldn't have known this trick with the switch, heck I didn't know about it until now.
Thanks very much for help!

This problem only effects 2003 -2007 ex and 2005-2007 Lariats and King ranch trucks. All have steering wheel mounted climate controls. Ford first introduced these controls in 2003 for the ex, and in 2005 they were introduced to the trucks and the problem started shortly there after. This problem effects those with or without auto headlights. When you turn on your running lights extra current is sent to many different place (door switches, radio, eatc, ect.) for night illumination That extra current is enough to trip a lazy relay and wake up the unit. Changing the acc delay relay does not fix the problem. I believe the relay is built into the instrument cluster.
Ah for the "good ol days" of cable operated blend doors.
At the risk of dating myself,....
I have several cars that had cables for floorboard vents (great idea, but not so good in rain) and slider-type temp controls. I replaced several broken cables and power antennaes mounted inside the wheel well...
Turning on lights to fix a sticking relay once/twice a year is a winner in my book.
