Probably needs a new wick. If it is a Corona brand heater the job, although a little messy, is straight forward and takes about 30-45 minutes if you take your time.
The wick for mine cost about $15.

I have a Kero heater and 2 torpedo heaters, with the wic heater, you should let it run completely out once every 3 to 5 uses. After it has run completely out and cooled, remove the lid, raise the wic as far as it will go, and scrape the carbon off of the top of the wic. it will be about a 1/4 inch thick. once it's scraped off, fill the tank and let it draw for about 1 hour before using it.
Also it's a great idea to light it outside and let it burn full for about 10 minutes outside before bringing it in. This will help the stink as well.
