When I first installed the system, the compressor & clutch worked perfectly. However, now that I have the system charged, it worked for a little while, a couple days. Now, whenever I turn on the AC, the compressor clutch clicks like it wants to turn on, but never catches. It just sits there going click-click-click. If I turn off the engine and turn the compressor 1/3 revolution by hand, then turn it back on, it'll work, and the clutch will engage until it cycles off, then it's back to clicking when it tries to turn back on. This is on a 1970 F-100 with the dealer installed system. Any ideas?
I have no idea what compressor you have, but I assume it has a nut on the shaft in the middle, and that removing that nut will allow the clutch to slide off (and the shaft key to fall out, so catch it). The shims should be just behind the key. They're just thin washers.
I wish it were that easy. There is no nut in the middle. It appears to be pressed on. When I get a chance, I'll take a picture. I appreciate the help I'm getting with this, keep it coming guys!!!

Well now I have to eat my words, or my foot, whichever comes first. Anyway, I went back out there, and that sucker does have a nut in the middle of it! A few days ago, I would've swore up and down that that sucker was pressed on. Anyway, I'll tear into it, and see if I cant fix it. Oh, here's the picture anyway:
Never mind. I found the problem. The electrical connection to the clutch is worn. I need to shim it to be closer to the compressor. Anyway, you got some good pictures of a compressor and clutch assembly!
