yeah these rigs are very universally used.as new owners get them, they have a need to set them up in a vast variety of lengths for different style beds, bucket trucks, crane arms, lift gates, welding setup rigs, utility type beds, dump beds,etc.etc.so they're really modded to any means needed.
you should be able to grab a used 3g alt at a salvage yard for cheap.the things are long lasting.i got a reman at autozone with lifetime warranty, but a used could last you for years and years too.as for the exhaust, just run some pipe and a muffler if you don't have one there.nothing special required.just some pipe, hangers, muffler, perhaps a tail pipe if you want to shoot it out from under the bed.pretty universal.don't try and buy an expensive kit or anything.no need for that.
I was thinking just a piece of straight pipe from turbo y pipe and then a cheap muffler. Odd thing is even with no muffler its pretty quiet. As for the alt, at idle I have 13 volts at the battery and when I was probing the alt with it running I could feel the bearing in it.

You don’t even need a muffler unless it is required to pass the local inspection. There are a lot of trucks running around with just straight pipes the freer flowing the exhaust the better for the diesel engine. If you can feel the bearings grinding in the alternator you should take care of that first it may be possible to replace the bearings in the alternator if you are comfortable with taking an alternator apart and putting it back together afterwards. If money is a problem I would investigate the junk yard Idea first. Note the wiring and mounting arrangements the same alternator is used on many other fords both cars and trucks.
yeah but can you still hear anything Tom? i put one of those walker/dynomax big truck mufflers on chip truck now.it toned it down a lot from that directly straight through one i had on there.it's a lot longer and larger around too.really helped, but now iv got a lot turbo whistle.i don't mind that so much i suppose.the big deep rumble when hauling on the hills really got to me.
