I noticed today it only did it for a short time after it was started but like i said light is still on and i dont want it on. I am a mechanic and have been for 20 years and never have i been so puzzled. No one in my shop has ever seen that either.
I am having a similar issue. Both batteries are fully charged and no matter how much the system is charging the battery light is still on. Any ideas how I get the darn thing off? Oh and the relay that feeds the glow plugs keeps clicking on and off...
Check the ground from the firewall to the block, I just ignored my battery light and went off the gauge.
If the glow plug controller is not grounded well that will make it click continuously,
that was for the other guy.
it represents the generation alternator.ford 3g alternator is legendary for being a long lasting, high output alt even at at idle.
mid year of '92 and after, they were installed from ford.so your '94 already has the beast.
every idi owner should consider swapping over to one pre '92 as the cost to value of the update % is simply too good not to do it.especially using used parts.
So I should put one in from pre 92? Any idea of part number. I will just search that and get it. Got it started last night finally. I drained water from separator and she didn't wanna start back up. Had to replace starter. But after sitting 2 days in the cold it fired right up
Tell me about it. 12 degrees right now. I got a new dash cover and new glow plug indicator module and fuel tank switch. Oh and head light switch socket. Still need to figure out my exhaust and testing for this battery light still being on all the time.
So i took the alternator out and I can see how one of the windings isnt connected to the board of the regulator. Its cooked. Also noted the advance auto parts number on it and I got ahold of the guy i got it from and got the paperwork and cause it says it was sold to a retail customer instead of to him they wont exchange it. Thats some serious bull.
Glad to help. You might want to do a check on all your electronics to make sure nothing got damaged. I had a bad VR, and it over-charged sometimes and under-charged others. When it overcharged, it fried some of my components, like my radio and an aftermarket digital gauge. Just a heads up.
Well I was able to figure it out. I had a winding on the alternator that was burnt off the rectifier board. I was getting some voltage but not enough and it looks like when it was running, it was discharging the batteries at idle..Better now though so on to the exhaust problems including the cracked manifold.
