cold in north dak

question for diesel mech. I have a 05 f-350 6.0 filled up with fuel wth straight #2 with power fuel anti-gel trck runs for 10 mins then acts like gelling up spun off top filter cap no fuel in cover but was not gelled or waxed up Does the filter on frame prohibit fuel that much? I thought there was a heater built in to that filter housing should I change both filters again u can smell the additive in fuel so I don't think the fuel is gelled

I don't think there is a frame mounted heater. You are probably gelled up in the HFCM filter. Change that filter.

With your current arctic snap you should probably be running at least a 50/50 mix of #1 /#2 fuel if not straight #1 plus additive, jmho. I've had 50/50 gel at 0 degrees. Might try the power service 911(red bottle) or the amsoil substitute to ungel your system

I'm kind of surprised that you can't find #1 or other winterized fuel anywhere.

6.0Ls had a fuel heater up until late '04 or early '05. It was removed, and any HFCM you buy now won't have it anymore. If it looks like this picture you have it, if there's a blank hole then you don't. It shouldn't need a heater, the fuel returning to the tank should be warmed because the secondary filter is made of metal attached to the oil filter, and sits right up in the middle of the valley on top of the oil cooler.

If you can't just replace the lower filter with a new one, remove it, take it inside, and hit it with a hair dryer. Reinstall and check for fuel at the secondary filter.
