I would only have a Ford in a Ford but I can certainly see why so many people use chevys. They are cheap and plentiful. You can also get just about anything you need for them and those parts are also usually cheaper than their Ford equivalent.

Most of the guys I talk to that were around in the early days of hot rodding tell me it was a matter of what was available at the time. They saw all manner of Chevys, Cadillacs, Fords and Mopars installed in a variety of vehicles.

I have a friend that is installing a Buick Nailhead in a 48 Mercury. He could have picked a easier and cheaper engine swap but he loves Nailheads.

I like an engine that runs good. Mine happens to be a SBC that came with it when I bought it. It is a '76 350 4 bolt main that came in a 76 C10. It was cheaper for me by far to get it rebuilt and I traded some woodwork for a freshly rebuilt 700R4, by an excellent local trans shop. I think it will be an excellent running truck one of these days when I actually get some time to get back to it.
That said, if I had the money I would have a Coyote in it like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ed...FQbl7AodYigAYg

I had a 5.0 SBF in my Mustang and thought it was a great engine, so that's what I have in my truck. However, if I didn't like it so much, an LS swap would probably be my next choice.

So a GM powerplant with coil over plug assemblies mounted on the valve covers and a plastic intake is something other than "gawd awful looking"?
Last time I checked this was a FORD forum...maybe you would bet a better reception at LS1Tech.

Come on guys, it isn't that bad. Says a guy with a SBC in his...
Telling him to go to another forum is not so Christmassy. Or should all of us who happen to have a different kind of engine in our Fords all go too? Last I looked there were quite a few on here with GM motors.

I feel the love, Merry Christmas to you Topmoo. But yep the LS1 to me is entirely better looking, But one of my corvette friends hates its looks. So really its all in personal preference. I am on LS1tech and other great forums. I love how freely people share information. The truth of the matter is I drive this truck everyday, and have been for 10 years. I'm way past some guy who doesn't even drive their hot rod telling me to "put a 460 in it". But trust me, I understand what its like to be a ford guy, always on the other side of the fence, searching harder to find parts and paying more for them when you do. I get why its so easy for ford guys hate Chevys. I just don't come from the times where people only bought one type of car and all other brands were horrible.

I agree Adamm, once upon a time a hot rod was a work of art. One used whatever they had and managed to put it all together no matter where it came from. And I have always been a Ford guy, from way back as a kid. My brother was a Chevy guy and I was a Ford. We used to get in fights all the time arguing. When I found my truck it already had a Chevy drive line and it was much less money for me to rebuild it than to change it all to Ford stuff, and money rules sometimes....
