shifter conversion

Can you use the Hurst Indy Truck 3speed shifter to convert a '76 Econoline from column to floor shift? This van has the 3.03 manual behind a 300ci motor.

You should measure the shifting rods that come with the shifter. You'll probably find that they are too short. Which means the shifter will be ending up near the back of the front seats. If you consider making the shifter rods longer, you'll have to be careful of them binding up. Usually from the torque of the engine. I know that the 6 cyl. may not seem to be that powerful, but the engine can twist pretty good under power. I think you should keep the column shift. It's nostalgic and keeps your hands closer to the wheel!!! Good luck....

Hey thanks. I have one of these shifters in my truck now and it was a real pain to install + I had to make a bracket to install a back-up light switch.
