the shifter in my 79 is getting really loose. The transmission is the 4sp OD.
The shifter mounts to the top 2 rear bolts of the case and 2 bolts on the middle of the tail housing.
shift patern is:
R 1 3
..2 OD
does Hurst make a replacement shifter for this or can the shifter I have be rebuilt?
Have the same trans. Thinking about swaping it out as it screeches in 1st and 2nd. Shifts ok, stays in gear. Have you compared the case to the old top loader 4 speeds from the 60's and 70's hi-po cars? If it mounts the same, a Hurst from one of those might work. I had a Comp plus in my 65 Mustang with a top loader--it also fit the BW t-10 I had--and I was disappointed in it. Long shifts, I thought. But not as long as the shifter in my e 150. Good luck.
i haven't had a chance to compare it with another transmission from a car.
But i do have a second OD transmission i pulled fron a 78 van a little while ago.
I may have to try to see if a cheap swapmeet shifter fits before spending money on a new shifter
