wiper spindle woes
wiper spindle woes
Hi guys.
Got some weird, scary thing happening with the wipers. Haven't had the truck long, and this is the first time I have gotten the wipers sort of half going. However, it appears I may have bought the wrong wiper arms or something weird is going on.
The spindle thing is smooth, yet, when I slip the shaft over it, it just falls off.
When I turn the wipers on without having wipers connected, only the tip of the spindle moves back and forward unless I loosen the nut. The one on the other side goes back and forward, but it moves in such a haphazard way that it looks like its gonna fall apart.

this is the spindle thing and this is the wiper arm which shows the splined shaft and insert piece.

Any ideas, guys?
I should run a video to show you what it aint doing...

A 55's setup is different than a '51-'52's, but it looks like you are having a similar problem to the ones that plague us. In your case all you need to do is order a new pivot assembly (or two). The part the wiper arm snaps onto is supposed to be knurled to match the arm, and is supposed to be firmly attached to the pivot shaft.
