I purchased the factory harness for the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package. I have the two plugs by the spare tire on the drivers side. Now all I need are some pics of where it mounts in the bed from the factory and the route it takes to get to the plugs on the frame. Dealer doesn't have a truck on the lot to peak at. Thanks guys.
On the long box trucks i think they go in the middle stake pocket and the short beds go into the area behind the drivers side tail light (this location would be good for both beds imho) then run the pig tail down the inside of the fender and route as appropriate
I went to order my plug connection and the dealer kept getting the wrong thing shipped to them , so I went and bought a 90* Bargman(same one I've had on my other two duallies) and put it in in about 5 minutes.
Here is the one I bought. Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring by Bargman for 2013 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty - 51-97-410
And here is where I put it.
And then use zip ties to tie the access to the bumper brackets and you are done! Very easy!
Ford harness ended up costing me $80. Snapped a few pics. Ended up placing it where it was on my 2009. Didn't use the spacer. Didn't use the 4 screws holding the plug on the spacer. Went to Home Depot and got 4 sheet metal screws.
As long as the wiring's a little long on the trailer you'll be fine. I like the location, the factory prep one on mine is too vulnerable. I've had a few near misses with firewood with it. I had the bargman one on my old truck but mounted in front of the wheelwell, seemed safer there. But my trailer is gooseneck and you have to get in the bed to latch it anyway.
In my 08 and now this 2013 I have never had a problem with the plug being damaged from all the junk and what not.
If someones going to break it, I'm a good bet. I'll find out how tough it is sooner or later. I've already managed to cave one of the fenderwells in. Hell, I smashed the center clearance light on my Dodge dually 3 or 4 times in 3 years from wood debris betwwen the tailgate and bed.
That was where I wanted to mount mine, but based on my measurements, it wasn't going to work without interfering with the taillight. I'm glad it worked out for you. I haven't had any issues with the factory location yet, but I can see how it could happen.
