Good point. Not everyone wants something with a manual transfer case, manual transmission, manual hubs, manual door locks and manual windows like me, i.e., those things that don't break.

I only wish they were cheap AND easy to find. Seems as though those two are mutually exclusive where I live. People want so much more than they're worth for the condition (according to blue book) that I haven't even bothered to make an offer.
My 2006 V6 went to 170,000 miles with me owning it. No issues with it at all until I cleared 130,000 miles. Then I had a front wheel bearing go, a transmission go and a rear wheel bearing go and then finally a plastic water neck rupture along the molding line. It went back to the company and they gave it to our R&D Manager. He has since put another 15,000 miles on it and its leaking from the rear main enough to leave a rather large spot when parked and uses a quart of oil every month.
Beyond that, it was bone reliable and did everything you could ask from it including pulling a race car trailer a few times when I needed it to.
I have a 04' Explorer NBX, 4.6, while the 4.6 has been rock solid, and fun to drive, other small issue's are popping up, cruise control not working, Brake interlock (issue putting in park)Heater fresh air door fell off, mice got in through it, nest on top of blower, freezing cold air coming in while driving in the winter, Hot air coming in during the summer !! Finally had enough of this crap, got in behind glove box, pulled blower box/compartment apart, found fresh air door laying down on top of a mouse nest inside of Fan/Blower screen/Grill completely disconnected from any hinge or actuator rod, mice had chewed the firewall Insulation, made a nest on top of the blower screen/grill the door fell on top of it, Fan on high hardly any air moving, Cleaned the nest out, fan blows good, screwed the fresh air door to the opening that it was supposed to close off, keeping the Heat/Cold out, Have No More mice problems, but lately have a real hard time with fogged windshield, and doing a search on the Internet I see I am not the only one with "Fogged up Explorer windows"
Also one would think that the Independent Rear suspension would be a better ride, it is so stiff, (on the NBX anyway)you get slammed around when turning into a driveway or certain slight road difference's, only way it rides good is when it has 7 passengers in it.
I would look for the Previous Generation of Explorer 97' to 01' like mentioned above!!
