I believe all Ford engines with a V belt are alternator-water pump- crank. Like a triangle. The Power Steering is usually on its own dedicated belt off the crank.
That's what I have, but there were at least two in the yard that did not have the alternator belts going around the water pump. That's why I'm wondering.....The belt coverage on the alternator pulley would be much greater with this set-up. Closer to 180 degrees instead of 135.
Let me solve your problem.... Take that P.O.S! Taurus alternator & throw it in the trash where it belongs & runs 120 amp GM alt. Bam problem solved & when it goes bad you get to walk into the parts store anywhere & walk back out in about 5 minutes & barely spend a $50 bill.

Problem with me is that I don't like cross breeding. If I own a Ford, I put parts made for a Ford in it. I like the 3G idea. I just need to get it to where I'm happy with it. Now, back to the topic. Can the water pump run efficiently on a 460 with only one belt going across it?

Man I absolutely HATE cheby garbage but.... It works & is twice the alternator the Taurus one will ever wish it could have been. 90% of those POS Taurus's are in the junk yard because of their electrical problems & to buy a new alt for one is $285 for a 130 amp turd that might or might not last a couple years.... GM 1 wire 120 amp & $50-$75 and will last 10-15 year's... What's the easyer, cheaper & more reliable way to go?? It is what it is. It not my money your peeing down the drain. Lmao
A junkyard 3G out of any of several vehicles that have them.
And yet its still atleast a $100 bill to have that $20-$30 POS rebuilt.
And no your not gonna change my opinion on the Taurus alt regardless of what POS 90's-2000's ford it came off of.
I've replaced to many of them in the last 6/7 year's to have any faith at all in them.
But hey it ain't my butt stuck walking down the road when it takes a dump on ya.
I pee on the 3G alt!!!!!!! The end
So, we can close the thread now because of your off-topic, rambling, hard to read contributions?
You're full of great info, but it's wrong; no one is trying to convince you to change your mind, just suggesting you stop misrepresenting the facts.
I dont know where you got the idea of buying a junk yard alternator to pay to have rebuilt;a junk yard find is what it is. If you want a rebuilt unit, buy a rebuilt unit. If you're worried about bearings, you can replace them for less than $15. A brand new 200A rectifier, if you were to choose to replace it, is $60 and finding a regulator that has good brushes before you check out is free. A spare regulator is likely free. And, by then, you've spent about the $90 for a rebuilt unit anyhow.
Don't care if you like my opinion or not honestly.
I LOL at the 3G alt.
Sorry can't help myself not to say it's a piece of crap. Don't ya need overpriced custom mounting brackets for that turd also? You guy talk about the alt likes its so great when its a total waste of money.
How many of you all really need that much power?? What are you running that a 75 amp stock alt can't keep up with?
I'm running ridiculously high powered off road lights & a 2,000 watt amp all with a stock alt just fine.
And why rebuild it yourself for $90 when you can save yourself the time & do something more productive while someone else rebuilds it for a extra $10.
