I tried to explain this to a garage in January with no luck. When it is raining I hit my brakes and my truck jerks like whiplash. Softly hitting brakes doesn't do it, normally hitting them does it (only in the rain), I had some welding done after I went to the garage.... They fixed the front passenger side now it feels like it is under me and it is now doing it when I brake in reverse too... I bought it October 2012 and it was safety inspected until October 2014. Trying to decide if it is worth keeping. I want to keep it but when I go to a garage they see dollar signs.
It only acts up when it's raining.
And I had the welding done in January and it was fine, until I got new tires last week.

I'd have another look at that tire installation - whoever did it might have done something while mounting the wheels back on to the truck to cause the jerking to return. Maybe a weld broke?

Yeah, LOL, I'm getting a fair amount of that here, too
Could the tire installer have bent or broken off one of the rotor guards, meaning one rotor is being saturated by rain off the new tire and not 'locking down' as fast as the other side? That might cause the sudden side pull or 'whiplash' you're describing in the rain. Just a thought.
I'm no stranger to extreme rust on my ranger either. No fun at all. My first guess is your core support caved in?
I read somewhere about moisture in the shoes for these Ford Rangers it was raining again today and was doing it this morning... I usually only drive short distances. Further in the day it was fine. Tonight when I went out I got going and then hit the brakes randomly and it was fine after.
i would take it back to the shop that did the work on the brakes and have them check that right side rotor.. something is not right. even when wet the front discs on my truck won't lock up.. the rears are a different story lol
I, too, have sticky brakes when first driving my '97 Ranger after wet weather. Within the first couple blocks in my neighborhood, I can actually lock up the rear tires if I press on the brake pedal too hard (speeds under 30 mph). I replaced the brake pads and shoes myself a few years ago. Everything is installed and working correctly. The issue goes away after about 1 mile. My guess is that a light layer of overnight rust on the drums causes excess friction, or the moisture makes the drums grabby. Seems to be a common problem when I google "Ford Ranger grabby brakes".
i know last week we had alot of rain and both vehicles sat a few days (S-blazer & the ranger) when they did get drove again the brakes were really "grabby" on both until the moisture/rust was cleaned off. i wouldnt junk a truck just over a transmission, might just be a band or something simple.
