A quick question for the truck crowd. How do you identify the 10.25 axle when the tag is gone? Is there a number on it somewhere? I've read that the D60 has identifying numbers stamped on the tubes.
I'm sure I have a 10.25, reputed to have 4.11 gears but have yet to verify. Also wondering how much difference is there between the D50 TTB and the D44 TTB axles? Getting ready to upgrade my '91 Bronco with some '92 F250 donor parts. I have the entire truck minus a few parts, like the box, engine, and most of the interior.
the 10.25 ff has hubs that stick out further than a dana 70, factory gears were 3.55 and 4.10, I think the 3.73's were only in later SD trucks with the updated 10.5 or are aftermarket, I could be wrong though.
Actually the Dana 44hd came standard in all f250 4x4 regular cabs until around 90 or 91, then the only option was the Dana 50. All extended cabs 4x4s came with the 50 standard . Not really a certain reason for why a truck received what axle, mines a 8600 gvwr, Full float10.25 rear, diesel and has a dana 44hd up front. Ive seen a gas 87-88 light-duty f250 regular cab semi float rear truck with a dana 50 up front.
