My new mod

After feeling stupid with my reponse in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-to-start.html, I was thinking and I came up with this mod. It's a vacuum manifold with gauge. I started with a fitting manifold and vacuum gauge from Graingers and then added the fittings as I progressed along. First pic is with the carb vac line to the manifold. Yep, there is suction. 2nd pic is with all vac lines, except one, hooked up and the truck running. This really cleans up the vacuum routing and also will make trouble shooting easier for vacuum leaks.

There is now a fitting with vacuum caps at the back of the manifold. Can this be removed and capped?

Are you talking about the vacuum tree? If so then YES. take it out and put a pipe plug in there. BTW Nice Job! I might just steal that idea from you if you dont mind!

Thanks and be my guest This one is worth doing. I forgot to include the last pic. It shows that the gauge is visible with the stock filter housing on.

Cool mod. It'll be included on the next hyperlink compilation update.

Some guys will install a vacuum gauge in the cab as a "mileage minder". Meaning, it informs ya on how much throttle is being applied to maximize MPG... the higher, the better while driving. Get on the pedal and vacuum drops like a rock along with the instantaneous MPG.

Care to go into more detail for someone less knowledgeable about vacuum setups? Are the lines ran in between everything with a t-fitting?

Not in this case. I counted how many lines came off the vacuum "tree" (the fitting at the back of the exhaust manifold) and I also traced the lines to where they go in the engine compartment. I based my manifold on how may lines I would use plus 3 extra in case I missed something. I plugged all the fittings before I started and went one by one. It is a little more time consuming, but I was able to determine if there were any leaks and which line they were on. I was also able to eliminate Ts by doing this. Just a note to any that do this: 1/4 NPT/barb fittings are easier to come by than 1/8 NPT. Also, if you have access to Graingers, buy them there. Auto parts stores charge a lot more.

Man if I did that, there would be no vacuum at the top half of the gas tank and plenty at the bottom half. Either way my engine sucks!

Yeah, I was wondering when that was going to be mentioned. That will be taken care of in Jan.
