"Dumb enough to be twins!"
My youngest son and I took the backs/back cushions off of the old couch and moved it onto the deck, before the new one was delivered.
Fast forward to about 3:30 p.m.
My wife wanted to take the old couch/sofa to the Salvation Army, to donate.
(This Lay-Z-Boy couch was in REAL GOOD condition!)
So...... Brad went hunting, yesterday afternoon, and my darlin' wife went shopping, which left 'me' to put the couch/sofa into the back of the truck.
I grabbed the handtruck/cart out of the shed and stood the couch on it's end and strapped it to the handtruck.
Down the steps, around the corner, through the side yard, where I had parked the truck.
I set one end of this HEAVY couch onto the tailgate and unstrapped the handtruck, then lifted the couch into the bed of the truck!
Success!!!!!!
I used some motorcycle tie-down straps to secure the couch to the truck.
Done!
All of a sudden...... my chest starts pounding, I'm sweating like a criminal in front of a judge in Georgia, and my back is killing me!!!!!!
(No, I wasn't having a heart attack!!! My kids say that I don't have a heart!)

I get the handtruck put away and go into the house.
My beloved wife comes home, and we take the couch/sofa to the Salvation Army and the YOUNG guys there lift that thing out of the truck, like it weighed 10 pounds!!!
Fast forward to this morning.
I wake up at 6:00 this morning, and I can't move!!
I FINALLY get out of bed at 6:15 a.m. and the only thing I can think of, is what kind of truck ran over me, as I hobble towards the bathroom!!!!!
The arthritis in my hands, is killing me.
My back hurts so bad, it hurts to breathe.
Hot coffee and ibuprofen are my dearest friends, this Sunday morning!!!!!!!
It dawned on me, that I am dumb enough to be twins, for moving/hauling that couch/sofa by myself.
And to think...... I was told that as I get older (I feel like I'm 85, today!) that I'd get smarter.
Last year, on my 40th birthday, i spent it in bed healing from hernia surgery. I have tennis elbow right now, and a crow in my lower back. My left shoulder feels like a touch of bursitis.
But, with all that, i still have my wits about me, cause i know that The Salvation Army will pickup stuff!! Lol

We are not as young as we used to be, my friend, and a whole lot older than we otta be. Hell, my knees got to 60 WAY before I did.
I have just recently developed acute arthritis in my left thumb and pointer finger. So, I know where you are coming from there.
Now I know why my Dad always told me to work smart, and the older you get the smarter you better get...."Here, have a beer".
You were pretty smart in how you did it...just dumb for doing it all. Better to be Beer Man these days than The Man.

A Lay-Z-Boy couch? Not a chance in hell...
i have not lifted anything over 20 lbs since i put that thing up.
and my back and knees thank me for it every day.
it even assisted me a few months ago when i fell and could not get back up.
i crawled over to the crane, wrapped the chain under my arms and hooked it to itself,
then used the chain hoist to lift myself up.

I had to have the L4-5 disk removed in '92, with an artificial replacement, with spinal fusion between L4 and L5S1, with 2-1/2 lbs of titanium rods/eyebolts and nuts holding everything in place.
(Yes, I set off metal detectors in airports!) It used to be funny. Since 9/11/2001.... not-so-much.
I'm "supposed" to watch what and how I lift, but, I get braincramps on occasion and don't pay attention to the doctor's instructions.
I'm still paying for that, and it's a couple of tick-tocks away from 10:30 on Monday morning!!
