Been a very interesting, and long day. Picked up my trailer, and the VW Jetta from the guy who lowered the trailer for me. And it took 2 hours to get the Jetta on the trailer, because we could not get it started. Come to find out, the $400 key the PO bought does not work. The engine starts, but then dies, like it is out of gas. But, the pop out key does work. Found this out, after waiting for a friend of the guy's to go get a gallon of gas, and come back only to find it doing the same thing.
The guy arrives from Pick n Pull and uses the correct key, and it starts right up. So then he drives it up on to the trailer, and because I was in a mud hole, I let him strap it down. Never again will I trust someone else to do that. I had a bunch of stuff to do and so I took the trailer everywhere I needed to go. I get home and park it, and arrived just in time for the bi-weekly movie night we put on for the kids. I get back to the truck after a long day, and I find out all 4 of the tie down straps are laying on the trailer, and the Jetta is all the way forward resting on top of the winch. The only thing stopping it from rolling off the trailer was the e-brake, as the transmission was in neutral! I don't know what the damage is since it is too dark to tell anything. So I will find out tomorrow when I try and get the Jetta off the trailer.

Ouch Jim. I always check straps. I'm excessive about strapping things down.
I also always make people strap their own rigs down or hook their own rig up if I'm pulling them out. I'll give them advice if they want it but I dont want that responsibility.
Exams turned out better than I expected. 68% on the first one (which I was hoping for 60%) and an 89% on the other.
Always tie down yourself or hook up trailers etc. First hand knowledge of this when I was younger (about 16) and was towing our boat. Took Yosemite exit off the 99 to the right and see boat going straight through intersection. Luckily no accident involved
Going to be another busy day today. Have to get the Jetta off the trailer, and the Jag XJ6 on the trailer, and the Jag has a dead battery from sitting so long. Same with the Jetta, had to jump start it yesterday to get it going. Hopefully it has enough juice to start at least once today so we can drive it off the trailer, as it has no hook in the front to connect the winch to. If the Jetta will start, we can use that to jump start the Jag after we put some oil in it. Ted, the mechanic across the street patched the hole in the oil pan so we can turn the engine over to see if it is locked up or not. If not, we will just drive that onto the trailer. If it is locked up, then there will be no reason to take it anywhere until I find an engine for it.

WOW Hank all the way from Livermore , wont be the first boat or trailer Ive seen running free, My mis hap was my Utility trailer tire down in Niles Canyon,I see my tire pass me by just in time to meet a truck head lite the guy never stopped , I had to fish my tire out of the creek lug it back on and got the hell out of there, the Mark is still in the pavement to this day
Well, I got lucky with this one. Winch worked fine when I needed to use it to pull the Jag up onto the trailer. It has a small scratch/dent in the black control box (I am guessing that is what it is) on the top of the winch, but it worked fine. The Jetta lost it's lower middle plastic grille, but I don't think there was any other damage. Bought a battery for the Jetta as the one in it tested bad when taken to O'Rielly's. They wanted $99 for a new one, so I went to Autozone and got one for $82.78 after my military discount.
Even better news is that the Jaguar XJ6 does not have a seized engine. Ted patched it with JB Weld and duct tape and we put 6 quarts of oil in it, and had to use the new battery from the Jetta to start it because it had been sitting so long the battery went dead. (I hope I don't have to buy another one) Anyway, it started right up and had no leaks, so I drove it to my mechanic's nephews house so they could swap oil pans. And it never leaked the entire trip, which was only a couple miles anyway. So, once that is done, I can put it up for sale too.

Good deal Jim . Make that money!
I think I may have my 6.0l sold. Neighbor is interested. If the price is right I'll be making a road trip looking for a new commuter. I'm thinking a 4runner.
