Hey guys, finally getting around to installing my Moog 8450B king pin set onto my new DJM Dream beams in the '77 1/2 ton. I don't remember there being the small grease seal when I took the old stuff apart, as well as the shims. I'm guessing you only need the shims if there is too much play up and down but I'm at a loss as to where the two grease seals go?
Anyone have an exploded view of the king pin/spindle set?
Anyone know the thread and size of the grease caps? My threads must have gotten a little buggered swapping out bushings and I need to clean them up.
No luck finding a tap to clean up these threads with. I mic'd the cap with a caliper and it is 1.053" where the threads are, appear to be coarse. I'd imagine a 1" thread tap or chaser is going to be pretty expensive. I might cut some grooves into one of the old caps and try to use that as a chaser...
That might just work for what you need & is definitely worth a try.
It was a bitch but it eventually worked.
Worth noting : The grease seal does not go in between the knuckle and I-beam, but fits the knuckle on the bottom side of the top king pin bushing. You need to leave a 1/8" gap or so at the bottom of the bushing for the seal to fit into. I had driven mine in flush and had to pound them back down a hair to make room for the seal.
