Got the old king pins out, new bushings in, and gonna take them to the machine shop tomorrow to be honed. Two Questions:
1. The new set came with what looks like two small brass and rubber seals. Anyone got a diagram to show me where they go exactly.
2. Is there an up and a down side to the bearing?
I couldn't answer either of these questions by looking at the old parts. Pieces just fell apart.
The fun part about doing this was using my neighbors 10-ton C-clamp. Neither pin would budge with the C-clamp at 8 tons. Threw some heat on there and BAM!! . . . sounded like the truck busted in half.
I bought that Moog kit for my truck. It's a different design...a bad design. Those tiny little seals are the dumbest thing to try to install. VERY fragile. I was fortunate to discover that my original parts were in good shape and I was able to reuse some of the parts. I don't recommend that kit.
Probably not, as there are several different types for Ford trucks, Ford cars use different dust seals. What other auto makers used the same dust seals as FoMoCo?
These seals came with the parts, so most dealers didn't carry them in stock.
And, even if they did, these seals came in a multi-pack and once the package was opened, the remaining seals could not be returned to FoMoCo for credit.
How many of these seals exist? The two sources that El Jeffe listed are it! No Ford dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.
