Be warned, there is a version of Windows 8 that cannot communicate with the truck using the AE OBD connector.
One weekend a short while back I moved a desktop with Windows 8 on it into the front seat of my truck. AE communicated with the truck just fine.
A week later I had purchased a Windows 8 laptop and it failed to communicate with my truck. AE told me it was a Windows version 8.xx (cant remember) issue.
Since then I've installed almost 500mb (no exaggeration!) worth of updates on that new Windows 8 laptop, but I have yet to see if the updates fixed the AE / OBDII communication issue.

Checked yesterday, still no talky between AE and my truck using my laptop. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Scrounging Google for Windows 8 USB port "fixes", but no luck so far.

I have kind of the same problem. Everything works but the power balance test and AE can't (or refuses) to fix it. It's really the only reason I have AE but I won't pay for any more updates.
