ECT Temps while its cold

Hello
This is my first winter with my 6.0L and with the recent EGR delete notice the warm up time is longer and if I start driving it takes a while for the ECT to get into the 180F's which is when the heat starts to blow hot. The most I get is 188F on the highway and it takes more than 15minutes to get there. I assume this is normal but am wondering does anyone put cardboard or anything in front of their radiators like the big rigs to keep more heat in the engine?

It's a diesel not a gas motor. It takes a bit to heat up.

As for ECT if it's well under 32 and you're seeing 188 on the temp on the highway that isn't too bad.

I'll have to check but I am sure the thermostat was replaced when I had all the work done. I looked and see others with the OEM thermostat having similar temps so I guess this is normal. I am looking at now partially blocking radiator to retain more heat. Some use cardboard and I saw some with cowl blankets.

There are people over the Excursion forum either made or bought stuff to put in front of the radiator to keep the engine warmer in the winter. I think one did use cardboard, so yes it doable.
