Breaks my heart that someone would let that 56 just rot away like that. Gary, is that the one I hear about in Anacortes?
And, is there any truth to the rumor I keep hearing about a slant cab (F100) panel stuffed in the woods somewhere on Orcas? I'm also told it's a real rust bucket.
Capt'n
Yes Cap'n, it's down behind Marine Hardware and Supply at the bottom of the hill. One of those common tales about "he's gonna restore it someday..." And the one on Orcas is pretty bad, makes the one in my photo look like a gem. Good to hear from you again, Bro!
And I'm kinda thinking of a Teddy Panel 4x4. But that would take some time and some more collecting of parts. That part is fun for me, as I like to meet people on our travels in the Great West, and follow down leads where someone has a transfer case etc... Just today while delivering some furniture we built, I had my employee jump out of the truck to photograph what I'm thinking was a '60 f100 factory 4x4, in camo paint and bias ply tires on steel wheels. It was parked in front of some kind of equipment shed on a side road and nobody was around. He said he'd send me the pics so I could post them but hasn't yet. We'll be in Eastern Wa for the weekend with wife's relatives. I'll report back on Monday. Might have to camo the panel, so 'nobody in particular' doesn't see it in the woods...
Gary - I know where sits a 59/60 F-100 4x4 in Portland. Hidden where nobody would see it, and becoming overcome with blackberries. The truck was smacked hard in the front and has frame damage, but could be fixed I think. I've done some study of it thinking about it for myself and know where a new front cross member sits in a yard in the area. The frame horns could be straightened. The thing could honestly be restored because it's not a bad truck. No rust, straight, etc. and otherwise unhurt. But it's missing its title. If you were to pull the drive train you could part out the cab, bed and good dog house sitting there with it. There's another complete hood and doghouse in the yard that has the donor cross member. Michael could lead you to it if you get down that way. Stu
And I bet some member here would love that box! Thanks Stu.... Just what I needed about now. Another good lead! And of course it would be the Holiday Season as well. Oh well, it doesn't look like it's going anywhere right away, maybe a spring trip for me and the Misses. "Honey, look what I stumbled onto. What are the chances?" OK, back to bed, had to stoke the fire (and pee).........
Yeah, it's not going anywhere. The hard part might be coordinating your work schedule with Michael's to get in there to see it. It's been sitting there for years. The guy told me he was gonna apply for a title, but who knows whether he really did. Stu
Congrates Gary on your latest and, may I say, greatest acquisition...a Panel Truck! When I saw your pix of it the first thing that popped into my head was that old 60's TV show Rescue 8. Doe's anybody remember that show? Absolutely luv that style of panel. Your plans to 4X4 it would only take it to the next level of awesome! Can't wait to get outta my shop over here on the other rock and come over and take a gander. Maybe after the holidayz and the temps get above freakin freezin.
Capt'n
I DO remember Rescue 8. I remember an episode where teenagers were swimming inside a town's water supply tank and something went awry. So you're sayin their truck was a fridge panel? I'll have to do some google work. Oh, and an oilburner? Can't say for sure, but I just bought an '84 toyota landcruiser wagon, Canadian issue, 3.4 toyota diesel, 5 spd rust bucket w/ no title for 1000.00 on local CL. Runs like a champ and all systems work. Details at eleven.......
Sorry Cap'n, Everything I saw on google shows a GMC panel. Still pretty good guess after 50 years! I think I'm gonna paint 'rescue 8' on the side anyways

Whoa now you got my full attention! I'm not only a fridge fan but a toyota man! I have for awhile been waiting for toyota to bring a diesel to the US. This is gettin interesting.
