You need to check the timing, factory spec is 10deg BTDC with the spout plug removed to disable computer advance.

What he ↑ said. No doubt your timing has gotten too far advanced for some reason.

As these guys have told you, check the timing. It may not be set just right.

At 220k miles it also wouldn't hurt to run a good dose cleaner in the fuel to get rid of some carbon deposits.

Agree with all above. Could be carbon deposits in the combustion chamber causing the problem.

Also a.low fuel.pressure situation could exaggerate the problem...but do as other members suggested first.

It also wouldn't hurt to clean your MAF, especially if you've been running an oiled air filter (K&N for example).

That can cover up the issue, but not fix it. The truck should run fine on regular 87 octane (85 at altitude). The Seafoam should help clean it out.

Yeah I have run 87 octane from time to time but it still our 87 octane fuel now a days is junk I think. I wish we still had leaded gasoline like in the old days.

Have you pulled the codes from the ECU? That may help in figuring out a problem. The EGR system may not be operational and that can cause engine ping too.

Verify ignition timing and pull codes to see what the ECU is telling. Correct those issues if any then clean out the engine with seafoam.
