I just changed all of my spark plugs in my truck, except two, one of with was just stripped, that one shouldn't be to bad to remove. But the issue is with number 3 on the left side, when i removed it, i took the bronze looking spark plug insert with it, when it was removed, and after inspection, that housing was broken, when the previous owner replaced the plugs. This does answer one question that i had, witch was what was causing a slight misfire. But my question is what do i have to buy to replace this tiny part. i see some kits online for 300, and then i see the single part i need for 20. What part do i need? And how do i install it?
Thank you.
You need the proper tools to install an insert in a mod engine . I payed almost $500 for my kit 6 or so years ago . Just used it again last week . I have seen cheaper . In my opinion the depth gauges and alignment jig make the higher priced kits a must . And a bore scope and vac attachment are nice features .
If threads are stripped , a proper drill bit for the tap size . The proper tap for the insert . An alignment jig to make sure all is in line properly . The correct inserts . Depth gauge and jig to ensure proper install of insert . Proper locktite for the insert . An install tool for the insert . And a swedging tool to properly lock and seat the insert . A bore scope is nice to see that all filings are gone from the cyl. A shop vac is a must .
In addition to the kit ( an air-gun , shop vacuum and compressor must , a bore-scope is nice to have ). Before start , you have to turn the engine (manually) to close the valves of that cylinder -very important -otherwise any debris stuck in the valve cause damage) .
There is a good instruction at timesert.com .
Good luck,
