Ok I just recently got a Phoenix Gold amp and have been using it for about a week, and almost everytime I turn off the truck or turn off the radio the subs do one semi-loud thump. All the wiring is the same as with my previous amp which did not do this. Also it seems to make a much lighter thump when switching tracks on a cd but only if it plays for a few seconds. Although Its slightly annoying I can live with it if I have to just wanted to be sure it wasnt damaging anything. Thanks alot for any help.
I used to have that problem before. I am no longer tinkering with
stereo stuff, but if my mind can remember, it could have something to with amplifier gain control high, also check the
ground and make sure it is GOOD. thickest wire possible and make sure they are the same diameter or that will put you into
a ground loop. the thump also is related to the turn on delay. It
suppose to delay so as not to hear the thump. I think you should
recheck the gain control. are you running high input or low ?
anyway probably confused you more, kinda confusing myself now. good luck, I'll check back to see whats going on.
im pretty sure its not the gain to high because the gain is probly only at around 1/4 or so. Ill check the ground tommorrow but wouldnt it have happend before also seeing it is the same wires and all? Appreciate the response.
I', sorry I can't remember how I got rid of it. How big are the amps anyway. I used to run M50's and an m44. like I said back in the days. I was running 7Gauge wire to a dist. block with 4 Gauge pos, and neg. I was also running at a different time, a
orion hcca 225 pretty much maxed, and I can't remember how I
got rid of the problem. You are running quality wires right ? The
most important is the inputs. since they run the low power they are the most suceptable to noise. also running audio 90 degrees
to the power helps cut down too. I gotta get back to the books
because this is killing me to find the answer...... good luck
Did u just upgrade the amp and thats it? There is an adapter to stop this. It turns the amp off slower. Did you upgrade the fuse to match the amp? What size power and ground are u using and what is the rating of the PG amp?
The power and ground are both 4 gauge wire and yes I only upgraded the amp and it never did it before the amp is the Phoenix Gold octane R 8.0:4. Thanks.
If you think everything on your end is good than I would contact PG and see if it has happened to others. Here is a link to the pop stopper if you want to go that route
Thanks PrPlayboy I'm gonna check over the ground and remotes one more time just to be safe and if that doesnt work then Ill give that a try appreciate all the help.
