Let off the pedal and it relights???

I have a family member with a 1999 7.3L stick. He has been having problems with it just dying when he is just driving around normal. But when he lets of the pedal and tries to restart it starts right back up and idles fine, the problem is when he applies the pedal. The problem does not seem to have a rhyme or reason, it happens in all different conditions.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

These TPS sensors in the go pedal can wear and go bad, but I didnt think they killed the engine, just dropped it to idle if/when the PCM gets confused by the signal. Might be something else going on here.

I'm assuming no check engine light?

It would be good to get the codes read to see if any show up anyway.

Thanks for the info. Maybe the guy is thinking it is shutting down and relighting because it is a stick. Maybe it is just going to idle. We will start here and see how the TPS replacement works. Thanks again.

If the manuals are like the automatics, the completely shut down the injectors when you are coasting (completely off the throttle), then restart them when you coast down to a certain speed.

I'd suspect it's a bad idle validation switch or the cps is getting conflicting data from the TPS and IVS. It shuts off because it thinks you're coasting, then relights when you push the clutch in.
