Bed Floor Alternative/Thickness
I need to determine what thickness sheet I should use for the bed floor. I have removed the center section of the bed and I would like to temporarily weld in a new section but I would like suggestions from anyone who has previously done this with flat sheet what thickness they used.

The stock sheetmetal is around 16g but gains strength through the stamped ribbing - same principle as rolling beads into sheetstock for added rigidity.
I think it'll need to be at least 1/8th or 3/16ths plate to have structural integrity for carrying loads.
Why not fix it right with new or salvaged bed panels?

Yeah, if its just temporary, use what you can find locally and cheaply........kinda also depends on how big a patch your making, and what you plan on carrying. The more you overlap the new sheet over the old bed, the better..........Have you considered getting either a full 4'x6-1/2' or 4x8' panel, then go with factory stuff for permanence?
