light switch **** replacement help

I bought a replacement **** today for my light switch. All I have is a shaft without **** now. The seller, told me there is a button that holds the end in and when you push the button, the shaft will release. I have pulled quite firmly after pushing the button shown below without any release.
Am I heading in the right direction, or will I probably break the switch and go back to the store. This Newby tanks all help

Push and hold the button and it should pull out. You might try a little WD 40 too. Let a small amount trickle down the existing shaft....

While pushing button, you might have to push and pull shaft. Hold shaft with either pliers or vice grips push in pull out. It should release. I don't recommend wd40 because it attracts dust and dirt.

starting to see a pattern here. I bought the new **** and also got a new key matched to the new locksets since nobody could make a key for me since they could not match the blank.

I pulled real hard while pushing the button. Will not come free. But noted the furled end on the rod. Ford **** does not come loose and I'm guessing this is not Ford. I has no markings on it. I know this is a Ford forum, but perhaps the experienced here can identify and give me help. At this point, I know it will break if I keep reefing on it and perhaps a modified **** - installed over the existing rod be the best out - from here -- in lieu of a new switch.

going downhill

But wait ---it gets worse---. The new matching ignition key won't fit in the cylinder. In fact- that also is not marked by manufacturer- and I'm thinking Yamaha like the only blank key that works.

Can anyone tell me this is definitely not ford since there is no hole to release the cylinder.

Also went to install the door locks and it appears the PO removed a rod that makes them work.

thanks for your input Shoo. I guess I will buy a new switch and bezel. so I can use the lock cylinders I bought. I'm not a mechanic so I'm learning slowly. The PO changed the engine to a later model 302 and may have changed the switch at that time.
I am assuming that the 1966 switch will work and fit in the dash. Is there a reason I should be concerned that the switch was changed due to the newer (1980's) engine?
